In days past, there really was no difference between the terms medicine and bathroom cabinet. They were the words attached to the big white storage box, usually fixed either above or below the sink. Today the meaning has changed, or more precisely, expanded. These terms now refer a great variety of products available on the market, designed to not only be functional like in the past, but are also meant to serve as some powerful decorative elements.
In most cases, a bathroom cabinet refers to anything in the bathroom used for storage which looks remotely like a cabinetry set. Vanities are the most common type of bathroom cabinets and usually come quite expansive and elegant. However, this concept goes far beyond vanities, and can be used to describe wall hung as well as tall and narrow cabinets. When it comes to master bathrooms, the cabinets are usually extremely intricate, basking in ornate designs.
When it becomes a question of design, there are two main paths to take: the American or the European bathroom cabinetry. While American bathroom cabinets usually make use of "faceframes" to cover the front edges, European-styled ones are frameless and use trim strips to hide some of the sharp or jagged edges.
If you want some extra flexibility in your washroom cabinet design, then instead of going for stock cabinets you can go for either modular or custom cabinets. While modular cabinets only allow you decide some things such as the finish, custom cabinets are fully shaped and finished to your will and exact specifications; they are however, very much expensive.
They used to be nothing but big, white boxes, just sitting there under the sink, waiting to be filled with various hygienic products such as toilet paper and cleaning products, serving no other purpose. Today, cabinetry, even in the bathrooms, is used to liven the place up and inject some character in it instead of being nothing more than a storage device.
